If you train hard and eat right, your body will look like that of a mythical “Greek God”. You will have a great muscle to fat ratio and will enjoy having a six pack among other things. At least that is the case most of the time.
What if you do all of that and you still have a little belly which never seems to go away? What about those love handles which are always there no matter how hard you try to get rid of them?
Let me tell you something guys. A flat belly is great, but it definitely is not the ultimate proof that you are in top form. I train with some very fit and tough guys who enjoy total body strength and have amazing endurance. These guys are in competitive MMA, Strongman Competitions, and many other demanding sports and they have sweet little bellies.
Don’t take my word for it as you do not know my training partners. Check out these amazing athletes who are or were the crème de la crème of their sports genre and yet never had washboard abs.
If you claim to love MMA and you haven’t heard of BJ “The Prodigy” Penn, you deserve to be banished from society. The former UFC champion who was the first American to win the gold medal at the World Jiu-Jutsu Championship was and remains a phenomenon.
BJ Penn amazingly competed in the Featherweight, Welterweight, Lightweight, Middleweight, and even Heavyweight divisions. He was only the second fighter in UFC history to win titles in multiple weight classes; Lightweight and Welterweight.
In order to compete at such a high level in the UFC, BJ Penn needed to have an extremely strong core not only in order to execute grappling and striking moves well, but also to be able to take punishment to his body from his opponents’ attacks.
Arguably the best soccer player in history; Diego Armando Maradona won the World Cup singlehandedly for Argentina in 1986. He again singlehandedly got Argentina to the final of the 1990 World Cup. I would like to see Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo do that for their teams at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Now this guy could run around the field all day taking body shots, tackles, and punishment to the body and at the end of the day he would dribble through four or five players and score the decisive goal to win a World Cup final.
This is the same guy who went and played at -what was back then- a lowly southern Italian club called Napoli that had never won anything before and once again singlehandedly made them Italian champions.
Diego Maradona walked on water when he played football. If you had met him on the street, you wouldn’t think much of him due to his chubby physique.
Now watch Maradona walk on water and score the best goal in the history of the World Cup in the video below:
This guy has won “The World’s Strongest Man” title four times; in 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2014. He is the current champion and I for one would not fancy arguing with him face to face about him actually being the strongest man on Earth or not.
He is considered to be the greatest strongman competitor of all time. He is the only strongman competitor to have won every major strongman competition out there.
As I mentioned above Savickas has won every single major strongman competition out there. What I did not mention is that he won these titles multiple times. Below is an extract from Wikipedia about his title wins:
“He is the only modern strongman competitor to have won every major strongman competition, most notably the World’s Strongest Man in 2009, 2010, 2012, & 2014, the Arnold Strongman Classic on six consecutive occasions from 2003–2008, the IFSA Strongman World Championships in 2005 & 2006, Fortissimus in 2009, the Strongman Champions League overall title in 2008 & 2012, the World Log Lift Championships in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012 and Europe’s Strongest Man 3 times in 2010, 2012 & 2013”.
All this with no six pack and a belly only a mother could love?
You do not have to look a certain way in order to know you are fit. Some amazing people have achieved some incredible things in the world of sports without looking like the Statue of David.
Know your body and listen to it and if your exercise routine turns you into a freak of nature congratulations to you. But if it doesn’t then you have no reason to be discouraged, keep training, stay fit, improve, and don’t worry too much about not having a body like Greg Plitt.
